There are books, and there are events. M.J. Rose’s fascinating novel, THE REINCARNATIONIST, definitely qualifies as the latter. It is a rich, meaty tale, with fascinating paranormal elements, covering a span of history that is truly remarkable—modern day, Roman times, and the Victorian era. The research is impeccable, the pacing keeps the reader turning pages. (Lay in extra bulbs for your reading lamps!)
I would put this novel in the same category as THE DA VINCI CODE, except that it is far superior in terms of craft and flow. I expect it to be a major bestseller, a status it truly deserves.
Encapsulating the plot is like trying to contain a tsunami in an ice tea pitcher. The modern cast includes Josh Ryan, a photographer who is injured in a terrorist bombing; along with his recovery come disturbing flashbacks to not one but two previous lives. A fascinating discovery is made during an archeological dig, and Josh soon discovers a connection between his flashbacks and the promptly stolen contents of the tomb. The female leads are competent professional women with agendas of their own—some of which are in direct conflict with Josh’s own. An interesting array of villains and good guys from several different centuries come onstage, too.
I love a good, thick book. Like most people, I am intrigued and fascinated by the concept of reincarnation. If you want to lose yourself in a powerful, riveting story, spring for this book. I promise, you won’t regret it. I also promise at least one sleepless night!
